The best place to invest in a downturn

I thought I was intelligent.

I was listening to a mentor of mine the other day. We're on a team together and there was an interesting question that was being circulated to everyone: "If you were handed $100 million today What would you do?" It was just a simple exercise in thinking with no limitations.

Well, I was thinking I was pretty slick.

I replied, "I'd invest it and make a life from the yield". An acceptable response, I thought. My mentor followed me. As soon as I heard his response I was sure he was right. This was one of the "duh" moment. In any case, he continued from my answer and said:

"Yeah I'd like to put it in the bank, but I'd invest it in my own business."

Forehead slap. "Duh!"

I know this. The best investment regardless of whether you are in a recession is in the area of your personal investment. It's something you control and can input into. Instead of passively dumping the funds into mutual funds or other stock that you won't watch all that close and have no control over.

Your return will always increase.

You're "invested".

It's not that mutual funds aren't an excellent way to diversify, but when you're an online company owner wondering what you should be doing as we could head into another recession... the advice of my mentor's advice is as apt as ever.

Put money into your future.

Naturally, how you accomplish this is also important.

One of the main reasons we got into the game of membership more than thirteen years ago. This is why we operate an IT company based on memberships. We encourage the owners of online businesses to include membership into their revenue mix.

It's an important game changer.

It alleviates so much of the pressure that goes the running of an online business. For most models of business it's a new beginning each month. If you're selling online courses, for example, you start back with a bare 0 course sold every month. In order to hit your goals that means you need to make sure to sell the entire inventory again, to new customers.

But, with membership, you don't start at zero.

Sure, members must renew... and some won't, but even if you have the equivalent of $100 per month in monthly income from your membership this is better than nothing. Additionally, you'ren't just selling new customers. You'll want to increase your membership to increase your profits However, most of your revenue comes from renewals.

Members who are already members will simply keep their subscription.

You've heard the stat, right? It's about 6-7 times more difficult to convince to a brand new client as it is to convince a repeat one. Membership is a way to take this idea to the max. And, with time it is possible to increase the "floor" of earning between $100 and $500 as well as $1000, $5,000 and more.

To be honest I'm biased due to the fact that I work at a company which sells membership software yet, like I mentioned... There's a reason we created our software. There's a reason we're in the business we're in. We're all convinced of the power of membership because we've seen it transform the lives of people time and time again.

It's up to you.

Something to keep in mind in the event of coming turmoil.

With membership especially when you join, the earlier you get started the more benefit you will get.
