The Autopian

"You should know who you're targeting prior to forming an organization that is based on the number of members," starts Matt Hardigree the publisher of The Autopian. "I have encountered issues that were caused by those who just believed that there was an opportunity for them. It's a math problem but it's not impossible. Math isn't complicated if you apply all of the information you've collected."

If you're writing on any online site, find out the number of people who read your content. "If I'm on a website together with 10 other authors and 3 of us want to create something, what is our collective readership? Does it equal to fifteen percent of the web traffic? It's not a lot. Do we have more than 80 percent of visitors to websites?"

It was the case that in the past The Autopian founders David Tracy and Jason Torchinsky made up 50 percent of the Jalopnik traffic. "They could have believed "We could create something new it's possible, so that's an option'" Matt continues. Matt. "What's interesting is David and Jason aren't awash with huge numbers of followers on social media, which seems to be the easiest approach to convert into readers. But, they weren't required to buy that because they already had readers.

The Autopian

The days prior to the launch The Autopian did a competitive analysis of the automotive industry as well as the media. "We are aware of how many automobile users visit these sites. Check out this picture: If we have taken out the costs, what do the things we will need to succeed? And then you have to consider 'Where do these individuals come from?' from where are they from? What percentage of them are aware of our identities and who we are? And 'What percentage will we need in order to attain a final goal that is sustainable and sustainable? and 'Relative to membership costs, what are we planning to cost? ? '."

The article's author states: "You can make some preposterous assumptions, and they don't necessarily have to be correct However, you need to have access to the information that is relevant. After you've made predictions, you'll be able make use of the capability of connecting these points and see where you're off and make adjustments. If you do not have details or you're making assumptions, you have to do the math, then calculate the result.

Matt acknowledges that even when you've conducted your own research, you'll have to wait and see' "In the first 30 minutes after the beginning the subscription my mind became a chaos! I wondered "What's going to happen? When the memberships began coming in, I was amazed! We're also still performing the analysis of data, and are constantly reviewing the effectiveness of our methods as well as the things that aren't."

Strategies for engagement and methods to increase

"I believe we're approximately 10% of the way to the level where membership might be,"" Matt continues. "We've reached our objectives as well as seen a good number of members. The initial 10% of our members is easy to get. The remaining 10% of members will be most challenging. Every tranche will be harder than the one before it. We'll need to consider often."

Matt believes that 10x growth is a goal for the five years ahead over the next five years. "If we achieve 50 percent of this goal, we're pretty much supported in the current situation with our members. If we are able to reach 100%, we're more able to sustain ourselves with membership fees or are making money from the membership itself. I'd like to reach that level."

What is their plan to get there? What are they offering now regarding the benefits of being a member and what could they offer to use this data to attract new members?

Matt responds: "It's a balance because The Autopian is a journalism business and also an event for people who are fans. We see it in three different types in the way we can encourage people to sign up as members and then to keep their membership by helping The Autopian feel valuable."

Strategy 1: Content

Matt says that the first bucket of content is the one which Matt refers to as the first. "We must write something that's good enough and exciting enough, and distinct enough in comparison to what's available elsewhere and I'm the only person who is competent to read this through the eye of the Autopian. I must be a part of The Autopian if I want the idea to be a reality.'

The Autopian

"You're not paying to get access to this content because there's no paywalled access to it. It's because you're interested in having it in the world." Matt states that the autopian's material will provide the best value "You need this thing to be made available in such a hurry that you'll be paying $4 per month, ten dollars monthly or $85 per month for something."

Strategies 2 and the Rewards

Bucket two represents the items Members receive such as Discord access, clothes like T-shirts invitations, tickets and invitations to events like trivia nights and other items, such as badges and stickers.

"We offer a variety of options at the time of purchasing your vehicle. The cheapest are cloth ($70/year) and then vinyl ($100/year) and finally Velour, which costs $250/year. The highest price is Corinthian leather, which is 1,000 per year. It has been more clients who've used leather as well as Velour than I'd like!"

"One of the things that you'll get is a birthday card one of our co-founders has artistic talent. We hadn't anticipated receiving more drawings. Hence, he's creating more birthday-themed sketches than we thought he would - and we're still catching up!"

A monthly expense of $1000 may seem like a big ask, however this was the advice from the well-known business known as media Defector. They informed Matt that they had many people that could afford the money they hoped to receive. "I was like"I I don't know the value, what is $1,000?' They replied, "Do it'!" Matt smiles.

"They also said that they wish they could have an intermediate stage because they've been through two stages lower and one that's higher" the doctor says. "We had a lot of discussion about it and then decided to go with the $250 annual fee. This was the number that worked since we're a lot of Velour members. This year, we've seen more people move from vinyl to Velour as well as between velour and vinyl and vinyl. The majority of people have moved from 100 to 250 rather than going from 100 to 250. This is a signal that we're in the proper direction!"

The Autopian

Autopian has also recognized that the Autopian team has also realized that content behind the scenes has been a big popular. They also share procedural material like the ones they came up with for headlines, as well as "Tales from Slack". Matt states: "We have our internal Slack. It's not made to be accessible for general make use of."

"People often come up with outrageous, absurd humorous things!" Matt laughs. "Our Chief Editor David doesn't have a sense of pop culture. As a result, he's always having difficulty comprehending things. He was thinking Ronan was Serpico; he believed it was an Al Pacino film set in the 70s. It was in fact an Robert de Niro movie of the 90s!"

Strategy 3. Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)

"The third type of content that performs really very well and is one which a majority of people overlook is FOMO. The majority of people don't want to be missing the most valuable material," Matt continues.

"We have a discord featuring a column every week of expert advice. The discord we use is completely accessible and for free, though there's an area for members to join," he adds. "I am looking for members to upload photos for general chat. Let me know: "Here's a photograph with my shirt. Here's me sporting my badge'. I would like to invite you to join the group."

Matt says that the process of attracting new members can be very effective as you are sure the content you write is in line with the types of material you write. "Every time we'll make an 'Here's What You Get' appeal - to help keep members informed of the advantages of joining are."

The Autopian

They'll also be grateful to their loyal fans: "We love our commenters and they're the reason we're being so awesome. If you're not part the group, we're sorry. There are some who don't have enough funds. If you're in school whatever, we can understand this. If you're in no financial position to make a payment, just become a reader. We're here to assist and we'd love to have you become part of our community. If you're passionate about these kinds of things You have the chance to join us."

But, then we'll do an FOMO blog where Jason will post 'Here's my birthday-themed drawings that I made throughout the month! People who view these will think  God bless me. I'd be thrilled.'

The idea of forming communities can take on a range of sizes and shapes. Even birthday parties are held for people who enjoy cars.
