Ten ways to improve your acting skills Jo Kelly Coaches People To be Great Actors

May 8, 2024

Jo Kelly isn't your average acting coach.

Actually, she doesn't use the word "teacher" in any way "I am not teaching people to behave" she claims. "I assist people in not acting."

Through the use of experiential activities, Jo coaches mainly actors and artists of all kinds, as well as non-artist "seekers" on ways to achieve an inner peace, and be more authentic versions of themselves. This way, actors will stop acting and become themselves. "I prefer to think of myself as an acupuncturist more than a coach, because I aid people to come back to their authentic self and rebirth," she explains.

She believes that the performance of an actor lies in their happiness and ability to fully commit themselves for the character they are playing. "When the character you play is protected completely, the narrative as well as the general public are impacted," she explains.

With her distinctive style of teaching actors, she helps her students to engage with their childhood imagination, fascination and joy. What exactly does that mean? They provide authentic, lively and authentic performance.

In the year 2016, Jo transitioned from in-person coaching to develop an online-based business using . Since then, she's created three consecutive experiences and served over 8000 clients. Their students have experienced amazing success after having worked with Jo and they are able to get jobs at the most prestigious studios like Netflix, HBO, Disney, Showtime, ABC Studios as well as many more.

Here's how she built an online company in the field she's enthusiastic about:

She conducted her own research

Jo has taken a different approach to becoming an actor.

In Belgium She completed her MBA before specializing in human resource management and the system psychology. The following years, she was involved in coaching for corporate clients. "The work environment was never my kind of place," she shares. "I made the decision to stop everything, move to Paris and begin afresh ."

One of the reasons she decided to start over was to test her skills at acting. Her enthusiasm was overwhelming. She was dedicated, diligent and invested all her time and money into training to be the perfect actress she can be.

However, despite her devotion to her work, she says she was a great actress but not a great actor. Like most actors, she was plagued by stage fright. "Most of my performers were suffering from similar issues," she says. "We had all been very enthusiastic, but when it came time to play, we became scared ."

The actress was fascinated by the factors that prevented her, and many other actors, from being excellent actors. "My fascination turned into an obsession," she declares. "I want to know the reasons why actors who are committed and dedicated shrink when it's time to perform ."

For the next several years, she examined the reason how actors could feel limited. The research led her to the conclusion that when kids play, they're free. Whereas when adults play similar to kids and aren't allowed to play, they've lost their independence due to societal conditioning. "When I realized that I had spent the majority of my life working with actors to overcome their stereotypes so that they could step out as they are and show the youthful enthusiasm they'd were before," explains Jo.

She began as a coach

Jo's experiences-based research led her to investigate various techniques for somatic healing that she later tried alongside other clients in individual and group coaching sessions at the start of 2000. Within a couple of years, the business was named To Be Or Not To Act.

Then she realized those she coached were lacking accountability. "No matter how devoted those whom I worked with however, they were unable to show up everyday. Although we would meet every week three times, there was no obligation between sessions. There was a tendency for people to drop the ball without a problem if they were not with me," Jo says. Jo.

The idea was that classes online would aid individuals to be consistent in how they conduct their lives. The instructor refers to her online classes as "journeys," and the one that she guides students in is The Reset: From Resistance to Freedom that she developed in the year 2014. "I invented The Reset so that I could hold people's hands through the 33 days of the journey," she explains.
"Since that the website is available, users can access the website in their own ways and manage their own schedule."

It's Jo's belief that we have a natural nature However, society's conditioning forces us to act as we think, feel, and act in a certain manner. According to her, the goal in The Reset is for people to perform daily exercises that help them remove the limitations of their lives as well as return to the natural behavior. Each day of The Reset, Jo offers recordings of the exercises. In addition, she provides two Q&As as in addition to two hours of work with groups using pods, as well as a semi-Q&A session during which Jo addresses frequently-asked questions in an exclusive Facebook group.

The ability to alter the duration of online experience lets Jo's participants take the sessions anytime at any time, whether they get up before they fall asleep, or when they have moments during the day. "The most important thing is they are able to make it work into their daily lives," she explains.

Her online business was founded which allowed her to live a more flexible life style

When Jo began her online Reset journey the first time, she ran every day on her site. After a few years she decided to switch her services after being recommended to Reset through her trainer. "You are the only ones who know what you're doing and I'm not," she says with the smile of her face.

Since moving into the coaching industry, Jo's routine has altered. When she was conducting her interview she was calling from the hospital where she was with her daughter. "Eight years ago, my child was born carrying a genetic spectra that is why she has to undergo hospitalization each month" she explained.

" allows me to remain a mother and be in charge of my children while maintaining my business - even when I'm in the hospital as my daughter receives her monthly transfusions," she says. "Working online allows me to provide for my child the manner I'd like to and be present every day to care for her. I am able to travel in case that my child is hospitalized, but also enjoy a job I am passionate about and not be stressed ."

Her subsequent travels were her own inventions.

After completing The Reset, they have the option to go into the three-month course called The Aimful Actor. The Purposeful actor journey will be a 3 hour class over 12 weeks. "The students in the class are on their own when it comes to responsibility and showing themselves. There are still some things to complete every day and don't have to rely on me to do it and they must discover the motivation for themselves to achieve their purpose." Jo says.

Jo is also available for Q&As in The Purposeful Actor Journey and every three weeks. When people are done with the purposeful journey and are now ready to go on, they are able to enroll in a membership named BAMF Actors In Action, which stands for Bad-Ass Mother F***king Actors In Action. "I created this course because individuals who completed both of the journeys would like to practice on this pathway," she says.

The program for members has been in place for 4 years, and it offers a content-based monthly session along with group-based activities through weekly pods, an ongoing Q&A session with Jo along with a 6-hour summit every three months. "The membership lets members choose what they'll do in order for their journey into the world and accomplish the things they're expected to accomplish and connect with professionals in the industry, and write themselves content, and increase their performance," she explains.

She worked with performers of different types

According to Jo she thinks that the majority of clients she has during her work are actors. However, there are many other kinds of performers, such as dancers, writers storytellers, and musicians, in addition to regular people who "want to move through their physical limitations" like mothers, and professional athletes such as pro-athletes, TV hosts, and therapy professionals. "Freedom is an issue for all who want to express themselves fully," she says.

Because the excursions are conducted in English, they attract people from around the globe. "We have people from every continent, but the vast majority of people are mostly from America, Europe, and Australia," she shares.

A majority of her viewers are in the 20-50 age bracket. However, she also hosts people who are currently in the final stage of their lives, and it's not unusual for her to invite those in their 70s and 80s to her travels.

The client allowed her to do all her talking

When it comes to advertising her travels, Jo says the word is spread via spread of word.

Her homepage, she's included an online testimonial reel. This provides proof of their social standing and boosts the credibility of the work she performs. In addition, those who visit the website can join her email list on her site. In order to collect emails, she gives two seminars for free in order to get leads on board: Stop Trying To Be A Superb Actor For You To Give You A Chance At being a great actor and the Instinctive Actor. In addition to helping aid with collecting the contacts' data, they also provide individuals a chance to experience her coaching style.

Also, she posts to her Instagram page that has more than 10,500 followers--and gets external press by being interviewed in podcasts, on blogs as well as in magazines.

She chose a price that is value for money.

Jo will do everything to make her travel expenses affordable for all, as actors typically have a varying salary. "If you took an acting class once per week, it would cost between $300 to $400. Most of the time, you watch the other actors act in a scene, with you, and sometimes, you're given a turn," she says.

"These travel options online are an affordable alternative," continues Jo. "The benefits of our travels exceed the value we offer to clients. ."

The Reset price is below $1,000 USD. Purposeful Actor cost $1250 USD. The cost of membership is $270 USD per month.

She stayed in her zone of genius

Even though she's the executive director of To Be Or Not To Act, Jo is firm in wanting to only spend more time in her personal excellence, which is coaching and making content. Jo isn't sure she's tech savvy and prefers to remain "in the moment" doing what she does best. "The rest of the aspects of running a company do not fit my expertise since they're not my field of genius" she explains.

Jo says her achievements are due to having a coach in place from the beginning on. When she decided to design evergreen trips and take a chance, she by purchasing a 20K training course to learn how to do so. "It was quite a stretch which meant I had be able to secure a loan of half the funds. However, I'm happy to be able to do it," she shares.

She believes that it's possible for anyone to create an online course that is successful. However, she says that this isn't an easy job.

"It requires dedication and perseverance Also, it's crucial to be genuinely passionate about what you're working on. For me, this is all I've accomplished since changing jobs during my 20s and that's the only thing I'll achieve. The passion for it is the reason that, when I'm faced with a challenge I stay with it ."

Her idea was born out of her heart.

She suggests online creators take a hard look at the task they'll be required to undertake into building an online business--and recommends that you only invest in this in cases where the topic they're teaching is close to their hearts.

"The chance is now in social networks, everyone is a coach and everyone is going to tell you how simple it is to make millions of dollars in just a couple of minutes but that's not the case," says Jo. "It is true when something is important to you, it is possible to connect with people that are more than the people in your area. However, it requires effort which includes falling and getting up. This process requires the coaching of your time and cash until you've built the structure ."

Like Jo If you start your company with enthusiasm, this will give you the determination to continue despite difficult time.

"An online company isn't merely the opportunity to work for profits. It must be constructed out of your soul and based on what you're supposed to do. In the event that you do not, you'll fall off the ball because it appears too to be too heavy." She explains.

"If you're truly serious and you're determined, you'll feel confident to face the difficulties. If you're searching to make a quick buck, you won't be able to accept these opportunities. I suggest you apply your heartfelt values to you. It's crucial to be at the highest level in what you do because there's a lot of competition. It is essential to be confident in the work you perform ."

Her integrity was maintained with her actions

When asked about the current trends on online education which we may see in 2024 Jo believes there will always have a high number of online programs. She believes that the major difference between "McDonald's" programs as well as the "gourmet" courses will be those that were designed by a professional with honesty.

"When there's plenty of items, there will be two types of online work. There will be McDonald's kinds of courses. There will be reliable and gourmet classes. Everybody will have plans to accomplish this or that with your life, but they won't be borne of a genuine source There are those who have been going at this for a long time," she says.

To create an exquisite culinary experience at a gourmet restaurant Her advice is to return to your heart.

"There is an amazing chance for anyone who has an open heart wanting to give back," she continues. "The those who are in need of your services will be able to find the need for you ."

"I'm content that this lets us bond as human beings in the issues that are important to us. It's incredible."
