Non-digital collages – The CreativeMindClass Blog
"I live and employed in Bristol UK and studied Illustration at Brighton UK. I've been a prolific artist and illustrator since 2013 where my interest has slowly evolved through the years, with my work ranging from vivid and vibrant design concepts to more abstract and heavy work. My style is to create art using a combination of collage, sketching, a mix of both and occasionally 3D. In addition, I self-publish numerous zines as well as sometimes comics."
What are your thoughts on your collage's style?
"Primarily not digital" (though this is my preference to be truthful both ways to work are equally relevant to one another) that includes a variety of papers with different textures. I've created pieces with a variety of bright colours. However, I've tried to be more calm and contemplative with my colours over the last few time. My work is focused around compositions of shapes and forms also. My artwork is slightly playful , in the drawing and collages as an act of play or taking pleasure in the process."
What are the keys to making collages?
"It's difficult to choose just one key to my approach to drawing illustrations, in addition to other work. The feeling of joy or happiness is essential in how I design my illustrations. It is my goal to constantly find ways of incorporating this feeling into my work. Before I take a final decision that I am not happy with, I inform myselfthat if I'm not enjoying doing this particular piece, then I should not do it, and I'll need to look at a different method for approaching the project'. In the case of Illustration assignments, I've observed that for the most effective outcome, simplifying everything is essential. I'm prone to become overwhelmed by details, or specific ideas or concepts, and then need take a step back and simplify everything in order to get to the core. It is often an issue that applies as much to the content as it does be for the formatting."
"I have created an artwork to support a important initiative that was announced in the UK known as Communitea. 55 artists , including myself were asked to make an art piece convey the bonds to Chinese tradition. It is now bought in the form a poster on Roomfifty and proceeds from the sale will be utilized to help save the London Chinese Community centre from closure and tackle the increasing waves of hatred towards Asians."
