The Brooklyn-based owner of a business that is small Carmen Ladipo, her passion to bake began very early. "I've experienced a constant desire for sweets ever since when I was a child," Carmen tells . "In my middle school years I took the same class to Home Economics, where we were taught to make cookies. After I realized I could fulfill my craving for sweets in and my personal taste, I was done."

It wasn't until years after that Carmen began to earn profits from her enthusiasm with a little cookie-related business online that ran in the background. "I'd recently relocated into New York City, and I had to think of how to meet different people, especially in my adulthood," Carmen says. "I was part of the local climbing group and was able to bring food for the gym and climbers. It made for a great opportunity to meet new people." After being "fervently encouraged" frequently to promote cookies, Carmen made the most of working in between jobs to start registering her food-related firm in Brooklyn.

"It was originally an excuse to make money by baking cakes and cakes for clients within my neighborhood," Carmen jokes. "But in the last 5 years Carmen's Cookies has evolved into an online company that lets me to deliver cookies throughout all over the United States to friends and strangers as well."

We spoke to Carmen about her approach to balancing the impacts on the environment and social aspects of her company, how she manages her business as a single woman with other duties and obligations, as well as the tools she uses to aid her in creating Cookies operate smoothly.

"As to the Carmen's Cookies community," Carmen adds, "it's amazing seeing customers come together in forces to support a variety of causes through the many years. The ability to facilitate donations in the hundreds of dollars that were donated to different national and local organizations for food justice and people in marginalized communities through sales of the cookies was an amazing moment."
