The year featured the inaugural Australian Make It Awards that support Australian entrepreneurs, creatives, and small-scale companies. The Make It Awards come from the beginning of 2003. The president Anthony Casalena founded the company with a loan of $30,000 which was utilized to buy the first server.

   Reef Design Lab

Reef Design Lab is a multidisciplinary design firm that designs marine habitats. Additionally, they conduct research on methods to sustain and repair the marine biodiversity or coastal ecosystems. Reef Design Lab works with the government, builders and research institutes for architects, along with other organizations as marine scientists in various areas that include eco-engineering infrastructure for oceans, coastal protection and coral farming.

Reef Design Lab plans to utilize the grant to upgrade the technology within it and speed up the development of new products.

   Lousy Ink

Two artists founded the business. Lousy Ink recycles printer cartridge ink and creates a range of art materials that are eco-friendly, such as recycled and ink pens. The company cooperates together with Australian and other partner businesses to recycle, reuse or reuse old cartridges that have been used in the process of being recycled. Lousy Ink's aim is to turn the waste material into a source of creative expression, while also helping both the environment and the art community by providing sustainable means of expressing the creative process.

The Difference was the initial app for mobile phones that is made available in Australia that permits users to accumulate online spare money from transactions , and later give money to causes they believe in. The Difference uses technology that lets anyone contribute to sustainable global changes with simple everyday actions and microdonations.
