How to Get out of Overwhelm as a Coach -

Jun 21, 2024

Most coaches I know feel overwhelmed by everything they need to accomplish.

They're not clear on whom their ideal client is.

They've got too many offers.

They try too many different things to try and get awareness and leads.

It's not easy for them to figure out how to enroll people into their program.

They use too many different programs that they need for gluing together using the use of rubber bands and zaps.

They are too focused on their clients to burn out even though they love to coach.

Do any of these resonate with you?

There are three kinds of overstress that I regularly witness coaches struggle with:

Overwhelming strategy

Clients overwhelmed

Systems overpower

Let's look at them in one by one.

Strategy overwhelm

If it's about strategy, coaches are often faced with several offers. They're performing too many activities to try and get attention and get leads, but often, they aren't able to decide on what type of client to go after.

There's also a lack of clarity about how they'd like to make sales that will draw people into their programs.

Now, in the beginning you'll be experimenting. That's okay.

You really need to master the Five Ones.

The Five Ones say that if you are focused only on...

One avatar

One source of traffic

One deal

One enrollment mechanism

For one year

One million dollars in revenue.

Until you've hit your million dollars Don't think about the possibility of adding another avatar, a different traffic source, a second promotion, or an additional registration method.

Coaches that aren't earning the amount they'd like to think that they should to add more offers as well as more items, avatars, or more sources for traffic ... all to expand their reach to bring in more clients.

The exact opposite of in fact the situation.

The goal is to narrow it down. You must be specific. Choose.

The issue is not making the correct decision.

It's all about making a choice that is right and then executing it.

It is possible to make any one of them work.

Choose one and stay on it until you hit the million dollars.

I understand how challenging this could be.

With the right guidance and direction, you are able to do any work.

If you've seen someone succeed with it, you know that it's a possibility.

After that, it's simply figuring out the details.

Clients Overwhelmed

Although we coaches love coaching and adore our clients, sometimes it can be a bit much.

When you're doing many 1:1 sessions with clients, it's easy to burn out.

You find yourself saying the same thing repeatedly.

There is an amazing thing flowing out of you in the course of a session with a client, but you don't know where it came from. It feels amazing!

You're disappointed that a lot of people will not be able to experience your magic, because you're saying this in a private one-on-one session!

Certain coaches don't just do the work in a 1:1 manner, but they're also doing the work on behalf of the clients. It's a done-for-you model.

And yes, you can boost your prices so that you get paid better to coach and possibly take on fewer clients.

It's also not very scalable.

What is scalable is doing group coaching.

Develop a program for groups in which you interact with all of your clients simultaneously.

The template, the framework as well as live group coaching and even a community.

Not only do they get you, but they also get each other.

This means that, when the number of customers increases, so too does the worth of your program.

If you're not currently doing group coaching, or if having a group coaching program isn't the mainstay of your business, then it should be your top priority, and it should definitely be the "One Offer" of your Five Ones.

Systems Overwhelm

Nowadays, it's common to use at least five, seven, nine or even more programs to run your coaching business.

Website host similar to Wordpress or Wix

Email marketing software or an ESP (Email Service Provider) such as MailChimp or ConvertKit

Carts for shopping like Shopify or Samcart

Platform for courses or LMS, such as Teachable or Kajabi

Video hosting such as Vimeo or Wistia

Funnel software, or a page creator like ClickFunnels or LeadPages

Community-oriented software similar to Circle or MightyNetworks

Scheduler such as Calendly or SavvyCal

Survey tool like TypeForm or SurveyMonkey

Tracking tool for affiliates like Post or Tapfiliate, Affiliate Pro

Sales Pipeline such as Pipedrive, or Close.com

CRM such as Hubspot or Ontraport

   Zapier to tie them all!

There's some overlap with this list since certain of these tools can do more than one thing.

There may be other words that are often used and I didn't mention.

You see the list gets pretty long pretty quick.

It not only adds the cost of a each month, but it also adds up to a huge.

It also adds a lot of additional work and mental bandwidth for you.

Then there's the fatigue of having to choose between all of these tools.

Each category is represented there are many alternatives with each having the advantages and disadvantages as well as some that cover multiple categories.

It is important to test them each, and then choose the one you'll choose Then figure out what they'll do when integrated with other components of your stack.

Then comes the real process of integration.

Do they speak directly to each other? Or must you use Zapier to "zap" them together?

Another issue, as the connections are fragile.

They'll break, especially when you're on vacation, and it's up to you (or your staff if they are one of them, and if they can figure it out) to repair it.

Then there's the psychological bandwidth that comes with switching between programs, with each having a slightly different approach.

This causes a lot of contextual switching, where it is necessary to switch your work style every few minutes.

If your logo is being uploaded at more than four locations you might want to look for a smarter alternative.

With NO zaps.

The glue isn't there.

No rubber bands.

All your business operations in all in one location.

As if you were able to find your house on the border.

And all the parts talk seamlessly with each other.

Clients only need only to fill in their details once, and you already have their information within your database.

Connect the opt-in for them to schedule a strategy session with you.

Easy. Clean. Simple.
