Find Balance in Your Life ... and create space for creativity Blog

Jul 28, 2022

In the fast-paced, high-pressured technology age, which is continuously cutting attention, it can be hard to find time for projects that require creativity, especially personal tasks. If you're exhausted of your creative juices towards the close of the day, or like there's not enough time to start with something completely new, you don't have to remain in a solitary state.

"I often get overwhelmed by the amount of things I must get done. There is work to complete for clients, and then I work on my own animation apps which I developed, and most importantly most importantly, I have my daughter to take care of," says Michal Finegold who is a computer-animated professional as well as software creator. "On on top of that, my inbox keeps blowing over, and social media is continually trying to capture my attention. I'm constantly messaging and calling. It can be insane."

Finegold's experiences aren't limited to one, and we'd wager that many artists also feel as if they're at a whirlwind of directions. In spite of the daily stress, it's still possible for you to live a balanced, thoughtful and creative lifestyle and a lifestyle that lets you pursue your dreams while having all the other things taken care of and also. In order to help you reach that goal you can, we reached out to Finegold and three others who are creative , for tips on how they've managed to maintain a balanced lifestyle.

Make and stick to a routine for your morning

Kathryn Bethard, a UX and web designer based in Delaware She says she is frequently overwhelmed by the demands of life is more so than ever. For her, finding equilibrium is much easier by beginning her day with mindful intention.

"Personally I've discovered that one method to keep me calm is to stick to the same routine every morning," she says. "Each morning, I begin my day with a calming mix of coffee as well as gratitude journaling, mindfulness and meditation. It creates a fantastic positive impact in my mornings, and helps keep me focused and in good spirits regardless of the day that is bringing."

Create a plan for your Day/Week

"Block scheduling my work is a method which has proved to be quite effective for my needs. It helps me stay focus and makes me more productive," she says. "For example, Mondays and Wednesdays are devoted to the work of my clients. Tuesday is my day for personal business marketing and branding and Thursdays are for customer meetings. Friday is dedicated to wrapping any work that wasn't completed during the week."

With more organization in your schedule, you'll be more likely to get more accomplished and also have more time to do what you want. Planning time to work on your own creative projects will allow you time to "do your thing," too.

Get rid of Dings and Distractions

The process of getting things done throughout the day may be challenging enough, but add the continuous stream of messages via social media, text messages, as well as various interruptions, and you'll see that cutting off or starting work can be mentally draining for your brain. The elimination of the noise -- both literally as well as metaphorically -- has helped Finegold to feel more at peace throughout the day.

"I switch off the notifications on my mobile and every other device, apart from phone calls. I'm unable to receive or view any alerts when there's an email or messages from Facebook, tweets and Whatsapp text message. nothing. The messages appear in text but they're not active," she claims. "I can't manage the constant distractions that are drawing my attention away from my mobile. Instead, I glance at these things when they are reasonable for me, and I'm eager to know more."

This doesn't mean that you must avoid the internet or texts throughout your whole day. Instead, it's about spending the time to them , rather than having them distracting you throughout the day.

Be sure that your offerings are in line to your Passions

This is our invitation to you to look at your current task list and consider what inspires you and what slows your down. There are some tasks that could be "necessary necessity" (like creating invoices or getting the email messages in order) but you must determine if it's possible to alter your offering so that they are more in line with your passions for creativity. This is exactly that Sabina Fenn an illustrator working on commercial projects, did.

"As artists, I discovered that drawing for commercial clients was especially complicated when I had to have freedom to paint things that inspired me at the time I was in that moment," she says. "Recently I changed the way I way of working, which was purely digital, and started working with watercolor and gouache paints. This has enabled me to reconnect to my work and has me excited for every project that comes my via my."

Instead of incorporating a service similar to Fenn, maybe you may look at putting aside things you're absolutely scared of. It's exactly the way Bethard last week.

"A couple of weeks ago, it came to my attention that working on a project that I did not enjoy was ludicrous. That's why I have stopped giving writing assistance. By focusing on design only allows me to have more freedom to think and to be more satisfied with my work instead of only doing portion. This is among the best things I've accomplished for my work," she says. "To those who works in the area of creativity, I would advise that you focus on the things you truly love. You might believe that possessing a particular skill can make you money are you really putting in the effort if you hate working?"

Create and adhere to clear work Boundaries

"I've noticed that as a freelancer , who operates from home, developing clear boundaries between work and life is vital. When I save my evenings for me, I can start each day feeling rested and full of motivation," says Bethard. Employers can be caught up in their work earlier in the day than the mental health of their employees.

Creating a clear end time -- and mentally checking out of the office allows the flexibility in scheduling your evenings. This means that you are able to find more time for exercise and work on a project for yourself, or get to stay in touch with your friends. Each of these practices that have been proven to increase your pleasure in life, boost your energy and directly impact the quality of your work, which will increase your productivity over time.
