Eva Munnich, an animator and illustrator, is based in London. Being a visual artist she creates cute characters using 3D and 2D. Eva was a film-student at art school in Germany and was involved in a variety of animation related projects. With no fresh challenge, Eva actively sought new methods to expand her wings. A few decades ago, she traveled to London to explore its lively, vibrant art scene, and then decided to venture into the field of character and illustration.

Below , you'll learn about how Eva changed her mind about her original route and find out more about her distinctive X-Files animated project that was created by her with Phil Brookes.

Looking for new challenges, as well as establishing the path for your career

Prior to moving from London in 2017, I lived in a small city in Germany as well as worked for a few months freelance as an After Effects animator. Although there were no major obstacles to my job, however my capabilities slowed dramatically and I became extremely unhappy.

Moving to London and becoming acquainted with the people who are a wonderful animator around me is a big boost to myself. I felt like "Damn, I'm running alongside amazing kids right now. I'm supposed to up my capabilities. "

After my trip to this year's Pictoplasma Conference, I decided to become part of that world of weird creative creators of characters. I was able to see quickly that the characters I designed work best when they're in 3D, which I'm still learning about and which is difficult, but extremely fun!

My work has received the interest to Greenhouse Animation, who is being my directorial partner via Greenhouse Animation.

In relation to the X-Files project, as well as the mystery surrounding the disappearance of socks

One of my first projects that I designed for clients using my brand new design included that of the Covered by Lemonade clip.

Sound Playing isn't compatible with the tag video.

Lemonade Insurance approached me to design a project for their daily Instagram artwork collaboration. The firm is a content insurance company, and the concept of cute household items getting into difficulty immediately struck me. This was the reason the X-Files concept came to life.

I was at the winter lockdown looking at the x-files. So, the thought of an alien abduction in the classic sense was the obvious choice. The problem was that the characters needed to be at the same place for them to be in the exact spot to stop the loop of animation to make sure that none of them actually were taken away - that's when I thought to open the washing machine to see the one pink sock start flying towards the UFO.

When I was making the UFO and also provided it with small legs I realized each piece could be assembled. The UFO is now without its shoes but is now getting them back!

As I view it making a captivating story can be accomplished through mixing items that seem unconnected first. Events that are not planned and also to give inanimate objects a personality through the use of silly images to their surface is what I love the most!

The process for animation

My process begins with drawing drawings of the characters I want to portray, as well as an outline of the story. I made an animated version of Lemonade in order to illustrate the concept and also the timing. Following that, I get in Cinema 4D and model all my characters. This is also the time I play around with different methods and designs.

When the animation created within Cinema 4D is done, I move to After effects to composit and finalize. The pink light beam as an example was made using After Effects.

The sound effects as well as the collaboration the group with Phill Brookes

It was the first project I co-created with sound engineer, Philip Brookes and he took it to the higher level! The work he contributed to raises the video to an entirely new level, and can help everything run smoothly! It was an incredible task to complete and I'm looking forward to make another one!

We've talked to Phil regarding his method of creating sound effects that can use in The X-Files project. Watch the conversation conducted by Brian Brookes.

In the present I'm discovering new ways of character rigging , and making stunning textures using Cinema 4D and Redshift. I'm testing the pairing of 2D and 3D animation and am excited to see what direction the characters I'm designing will take in the next few years!
