When I have time I enjoy doing 30-minute-hour research or other explorations in which I just do whatever I feel like the day. Doing this really helped me improve but it also made me realize which things I enjoyed.

Today, I am able to focus on color, light, as well as how to convey things in a way that is simple so I don't have to get too specific with all of it. I usually maintain my designs pretty close to real life however, in the future I'm looking to push shapes more and also be more stylized in my artwork.

Before I begin painting, generally speaking, I like laying out the basic shapes initially, either using BW or just straight with the color. If I feel it's necessary to start by drawing lines initially. Once I have a good foundation, I prefer to draw in the light shapes and shadow shapes onto separate layers. It is not until that point do I begin to create or render the image, usually going from big to the smallest of details.

For Streets of London painting I employed a similar method. To ensure neat edges and keep everything neat, I made use of a number of layers. I also put the main light layer on another layer.

Layers also help me less worried about making mistakes, but when I'm comfortable with the stage I'm in with the painting I start merging a few aspects, while keeping only what I feel is necessary.

For me, colours are an "feel" thing, I just go for those that feel right. I also have different references I consult for help in choosing the perfect colours. Sometimes I combine references, and at sometimes I just use just one.

It's definitely beneficial to learn about the theory of light and colour, so you know what you could do to help make the overall colour palette and values more pronounced.

It's a bit difficult for me to say what the secret to creating my work... I just like to explore diverse styles, techniques, and subjects and am inspired by others artists.

I'm only a few months into my art journey and continue to try to figure out what I'm like as an artist, and what kind of style I have. The main difference in my life is that I don't have to think about it as much I did in the past and I think that's making significant changes.

My Background

I'm Bjork who is a visual artist. I'm currently working in the field of Concept Art on games.

I am from a tiny island called The Faroe Islands and have always been creative in some form whether it was by drawing, storytelling or drawing. I graduated with a BA in CG arts at The Animation workshop in Viborg, Denmark, in 2019 and started my first job in London later that year.

Presently, I'm employed as a concept artist at Envar Studios but also do occasional freelance gigs.

It's true that I'm generally more active on Twitter as compared to Instagram. If anyone would like to buy prints I sell prints on Instagram.
