Collage art - The CreativeMindClass Blog
In the afternoon of Sunday, I caught Olga posting Instagram stories of my childhood neighborhood. In the middle of Warsaw's urban jungle is an undiscovered, revered green zone. I often visited it in summer time to gaze at the beautiful pine trees and catch a breath of the natural world in my urban lung. In her account, Olga visited this area on her first trip, however she was also fascinated by one of the oldest gardens in Warsaw. And I bet that soon she'll paint the Boernerowo-inspired painting.
We inquired with Olga what she uses as the basis for making her minimal collages and paintings of human-shaped landscapes
"My Name is Olga Szczechowska, and I'm living in Warsaw. Since I was a little kid, I've drawn and painted often. I went to an art school in high school. I also studied Painting as well as Cultural Studies at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Torun.
I'm a designer, artist, and illustrator occasionally graphic designer. Through my work, I examine the interplay between humankind and nature by carefully observing the way we create the environment in our backyards. When I look at hedges that have been trimmed, decorative plants, and well-designed home gardens, I am capturing the eerie nature of our immediate surroundings."
"For some time, I've made simple collages. The compositions are in the form of landscapes and still life, or are developed as a result from experiments with shapes, textures as well as colours.
My work is diverse since collage and painting are very different, but they do have something that is common to both: they calm. I have heard this term repeatedly from my viewers and think it best describes the nature of my work. If I am tired of drawing, I do collages, and vice versa. One style is a temporary getaway from the other.
I think observation is key. I am attentive to all around me: the environment, architecture and objects. This is evident in my artwork. My artworks are not able to see the human being, but we can feel the sense of human beings in hedges that have been cut or in a mug left in the kitchen table."
