Can AI allow creativity to flourish? Views from film makers and Vice President of Creative
No one can argue with the fact that AI won't be going anywhere.
Although there's a valid discussion over whether AI could become editors, writers or even concept art directors, people have accepted the fact that AI is inevitable and are now pondering its capability to transform how work is done. When I was at Cannes I listened to different viewpoints of creatives such as will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas fame discuss the ways in which AI will transform our world in the next 10 years. A lot of discussion focused on the ways in which AI is quickly opening up individuals and how they impact the process of creativity.
Being an artistic director for twentyplus years, I was looking to express my thoughts and view this as an opportunity to start a conversation with our communities.
What's the present situation? What's the next move from here?
This is what AI can do currently.
"I used to be a magician before I started my filmmaking. Very quickly, when you're a magician, realize that all modern technologies could be used to compare it to the technique of. It can be a bit frightening in the event that you do not know how it's working or what's happening. This is the way I am about AI for creatives or any businessperson who earns money by the idea of putting it on your mind, onto a page, or onto the screen, AI can be a frightening thing as it may take over your job." Ben Proudfoot, Oscar-winning short Doc directory. named Breakwater Studios' CEO. Breakwater Studios
Humans are naturally creative. It is a ability that artificial intelligence cannot replicate.
Midjourney began operations in July of 2022. ChatGPT came in close proximity next month, which was the same year. In the time since, we've seen self-identified "non-creatives" unleash the potential of their creativity, which has been largely inaccessible because of the lack of skills.
Some of these creations can be quite stunning, and technology has advanced in such rapid speed that you'd fooled into thinking that the tools are just 1 year old.
AI helps you share concepts
Concepts that are complex for film, films, stories, or music have been limited by the methods and capabilities required to bring these concepts into existence.
In the recent year, such images are possible to create with just a few simple keystrokes:
If you're a well-known creator like the award-winning filmmaker Hashem Al-Ghaili, the possibility is higher.
Think about his mostly artificially-generated short film " Last Stand," which depicts how humankind would react in the event that extraterrestrials were to make contact.
"AI will make us think about the world in a way you've never even thought of," says Crystal Edmonds the Director of Accounts and event activation at Magnet Media Films. "I believe that it's going enhance our thinking. It will teach us things we didn't know it was necessary to study. There's a good chance that the people unlocking another level of creativity through AI."
For instance, Staff Pick winner Paul Trillo's short film "Thank You for Not Answering."
Instead of seeking authenticity, The designer consciously concentrates on the dreamlike style that Runway has cultivated in its Gen-2. "As the man sends a message to someone who's from the past He is inundated with fragments from his faded memory and is imagining a life that might have happened."
A true artist, he's adapting to the limits and strengths of the medium, resulting in something unique.
AI helps you to verify the validity of your ideas and also sell them.
While the above examples are amazing instances of ways AI is being employed to communicate an artistic view, AI for commercial use is at present it's an innovation.
Have a look at this artificially-generated beer commercial. It's a product of the moment, and could not be considered to be a legitimate ad if run as a legitimate advertisement.
However, it does give plenty of details about executives superiorly than a moodboard sketches, sketch or elevator pitch would ever be able to do.
Thanks to generative AI, it's not necessary to rely the words in order to make images for greater than 10 viewers. Instead, you can use a description prompt to generate an ideal sizzle film and animatics, or pre-visualizations for convincing viewers to embrace a certain vision.
What does this mean for the creatives of today?
Begin to learn how to create a strong need to AI.
"I think that the next generation of workers will become more proficient using the tools we have in our arsenal and begin to make the use of generative AI in visual and written media." says Orlando Baeza chief marketing officer and Chief Revenue Officer at Flock Freight. "I think that there will be a lot of job growth in this area, however there will be an ongoing process of enhancing the skills of the current workforce before the next generation will follow and develop it."
AI could save production time
The process of making videos currently takes an average of two to three weeks to produce from start to finish. Yet, AI is speeding the process, which allows the creators to be more creative and gives production staff extra time to complete work that requires focused craftsmanship.
"I believe that one of the most pressing issues in the film industry is how expensive it is to create a film. It's a high standard of making a film and one of the unique aspects of the method is that it allows filmmaking more affordable to everyone," continues Baeza. "So the moment AI and machine learning are tools that will help those with limited resources, to achieve the mass market, it's an excellent thing not?"
AI has made the process of making videos simpler by automating processes like editing transcription, personalization, and planning. Like, for instance, adding or removing elements from background videos has been an arduous, lengthy process but it feasible now using Generative Fill tool.
"I think that organizations will see AI as productivity and efficiency increases," says Baeza. "I am convinced that AI can be a great collaborator and is likely to play a role in the development of businesses."
Here's the thing AI isn't able to assist you in
AI will not help increase your popularity.
Machine learning is based on crunching the data that is already in use, then analysing the patterns in the data it has previously absorbed. For instance it is possible that an algorithmic AI software can generate stunning images of a blue colored cup, based on the thousands of images it has gone through of blue-colored cups.
It's not about replicating the same thing that's previously been attempted. It's about the process of framing concepts in a fresh approach and applying a unique spin on an old notion, or making a connection no one else has previously done. According to Steve Jobs famously said:
"Some folks say to give customers what they want, but that's not what I view it. It's our responsibility to know what they're likely to need before giving them what they want. I believe that Henry Ford once said, "If I'd asked my customers what they wanted and they'd have told me that they wanted a speedier horse. People don't really know what they want until you show the product to them. It is our job to communicate things that do not exist on newspaper." Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple
Creativity is an amalgamation of art and science and AI excels in the scientific aspect to the formula.
There are a number of formulaic and easily replicated best practices that we use in the field and which AI could replicate in the future, for instance, the rule of thirds or the usage of a strong red font for promoting a sale. But so far, AI isn't able to remain forward-looking. It can't identify virality, or give new and innovative ideas which customers would love.
For creatives, that's good news. Develop your own original ideas, then use AI to help bring the concepts to life.
AI can't duplicate the process of creativity.
One of the wonderful aspects of the process of creating is that -- no matter how specific your plan is your idea develops a personality that is its own when it is developed. Every person who comes in contact with your concept adds their own thoughts and ideas to the concept The finished product will possess an appealing appeal that you may never have thought of.
The film editor I collaborated with once stated "You may have already shot your storyboard, however, the storyboard isn't worth anything now and I'm just planning to use my footage." Even if all was done as per the storyboard, editors may point out specifics or modify things in a way which differs from the original strategy.
At the moment I'm unable to think of any way for AI to replicate the creative process in this as a manner.
AI doesn't possess a distinct viewpoint that it can bring into the workflow, like an individual filmmaker or videographer could. Therefore, even when AI is utilized during the creation process such as to speed ideation or editing -humans remain integral to the creative process.
Be aware of the future and maintain an open mind
In the end, AI will accelerate our ability to express our ideas, as well as a trigger that will allow a whole fresh generation of creators to come out and do things we've never thought of. If I were to describe the moment with terms that describe the time, the word could be described as an exuberant feeling as it's the first time that we've ever seen this in a long time, we're seeing the unexplored.
As a matter of fact, I'm just one man, with one opinion and set of opinions. We should continue looking at possible solutions with an open mind be open to new ideas, keep an open-minded thinking and participate in a dialog.
As of now I'm curious to know what your position is. What is your method of making use of AI at present? And where do you think it'll lead our industry?
