Arts as Escapism The CreativeMindClass Blog

I'm from Venezuela. I grew up in a city that was very tropical surrounded by hills and palm trees, however I it was never allowed for me to experience my surroundings fully (partly because of my parents' excessive protection, but mostly because of the daily anxieties in my own country). The majority of my time was spent indoors. TV and books were my primary forms of escapism - and drawing! I was constantly drawing my most favorite characters from anime as well as my family, friends, pets I wasn't allowed to own, costumes, and all sorts of things.

It was mostly a pastime at the time, and I was certain that I would never go beyond that in Venezuela. However, my family made the decision to move to the UK which was a major change for me. When I was a teenager I finally had greater freedom, and was able to travel on my own and think about what I would like to accomplish.

My passion for characters and storytelling has led me to comics which then inspired me to draw. All the pieces became one. After some years of study (and many hours of hard work), I'm now freelancing as an illustrator from London.

My work I believe is bold, fun and sometimes a little messy (in an excellent manner!). It can be straightforward, or it can be incredibly detailed; but the illustrations always feature a figure or animal or some nice piece of scenery. I love to believe that every illustration I draw is one in the same.

For me, the most important thing is having fun with it. I am reminded of things that enthralled me as a child as a child: vivid colors as well as sly characters, humorous moments, and tiny little details to lose yourself in. The goal of my work is to capture as many of these elements every time I make something brand new. If I'm able to get the viewer to feel happy or content, or feel like they noticed something interesting and interesting, then I've succeeded in what I wanted.

"Another essential element that I am looking for is humor. Over time, I've realized that I'm not an adequate person to make very complex or abstract artworks however I am quite adept at creating something lighthearted that can make someone laugh. I work to my strengths now."
