Artist Vlog - Riso Chan

Riso Chan about embracing her true, sensitive self through art:

My work is deeply emotional. My work is based on portraits that portray the things that I feel. I have always been a sensitive individual. From the time I was a kid there was something that made me feel uncomfortable , and I would try to get it out of my system. (...) As you mature, you realise that actually everything is fine and everybody feels differently. I decided to use all the emotional energy I bring to my everyday day life to begin painting. I use it to fuel my creative juices and generate fresh ideas. It's amazing that the thing I had been trying to push down for all of my life, all of a sudden I put it down on sheet of paper and it felt like such a feeling of relief. It is now the possibility to use this sensitivity, I can utilize these feelings pleasures, hurts, and pains and write them down. The experience was truly wonderful and took me to a state where I felt grateful. The experience began to resonate with a number of others too. I was opening to putting ideas onto paper that I had have never considered prior to. In lieu of trying to become like other artists who were already "made it" I was really listening on what I would like to say and what I want to express as a person. I accepted something I was not happy with about myself and I realised it is actually my superpower. I'm very happy to be my true sensitive self.
