Are there ways to let AI help to boost creativity? Perspectives of film makers and vice president of creative

Sep 17, 2023

It's hard to argue with the fact that AI won't be going anywhere.

Although there's a valid argument about whether AI can transform into editors, writers or even concept art directors, the majority of people accept that AI is inevitable, and are now contemplating the potential of changing the manner in which work is carried out. While at Cannes I was able to listen to various viewpoints of creatives such as will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas fame discuss what AI can transform the way we work within the next 10 years. The majority of discussions focused on the ways in which AI is quickly opening doors to the public, and the ways that AI can affect creativity.

Being an artistic director for over twenty years I was looking for an opportunity to present my ideas and see this as an occasion to engage in discussions with my audiences.

What's happening now? What's the next move from here?

This is how AI is able to achieve at present.

"I used to be magician before starting filmmaking. Very quickly, when you're a magician, realize that every modern tool could be utilized to evaluate its performance to that of. It could be scary in case you don't know how it's working. This is what I'm considering for AI for artists or other professional who earns a living through the thought of putting the idea in your mind or onto paper or onto the screen. AI is a potentially terrifying aspect because it may have the ability to control your work." Ben Proudfoot, Oscar-winning short Doc directory. Nominated Breakwater Studios' CEO. Breakwater Studios

Humans naturally have the ability to be creative. It's a talent that artificial intelligence can't duplicate. Midjourney began operations in July of 2022. ChatGPT was launched in close proximity to the month following, that in the same year. Since then the introduction, we've witnessed self-described "non-creatives" realize the potential of their talents as creative people however, this talent has been largely inaccessible because there is a lack of knowledge.

The creations are stunning and the technology has improved at such rapid speed that you'd think that these technology is only one year older.

AI will help you to communicate your ideas

In the complex world of cinema industry, films and music can be hampered by the methods and capabilities needed to bring these concepts to life.

Since the past year it has become feasible in just a few simple keystrokes:

The midjourney 5.2 is the new norm for AI images.

In less than 48 hours there are already people who pushed the boundaries.

So far, we know:

If you're an established maker, like Oscar-winning filmmaker Hashem Al-Ghaili the chance will be higher.

Think about his mostly artificially-generated short film " Last Stand," which depicts how humankind would react in the event that extraterrestrials were to make contact.

"AI could help us look at our world in ways that you've never thought of," says Crystal Edmonds the director of Accounting and Event Activation at Magnet Media Films. "I think that it could help us think more clearly. The AI can help us learn about things we didn't know it was essential to know. It's likely that those who use AI can unlock another degree of creativeness by using AI."

In this case, Staff Pick winner Paul Trillo's short feature film "Thank You for Not Answering."

Instead of focusing on authenticity, the designer concentrates on the dreamlike style that Runway is able to cultivate in its Gen-2. "As someone sends a message to someone older, they are overcome by the fragments of memories that are fading, imagines a possible scenario of what could be happening."

Artists of the top caliber, he's adapting to the limits and strengths of the medium, resulting in something unique.

AI helps you verify the legitimacy of your ideas and also aids in convincing your ideas.

While the above examples provide amazing examples of how AI is used to communicate an artistic view, AI for commercial use is a current breakthrough technology.

Have a look at this artificially-generated beer commercial. This is a result of the time, and could be deemed as not legitimate advertising when viewed as a genuine advertisement.

But, it provides various details regarding executive more than any sketch for a moodboard, sketches or elevator pitches would ever be able to offer.

Because of the generative AI technology, it is no longer required to depend on words to create images that are suitable for a group of more than. Instead, you can employ the prompt for description to generate an ideal animation or sizzle film, or even pre-visualizations to convince people to embrace a certain image.

What does this mean for the artists of today?

Learn to create a compelling reason for AI.

"I am convinced that the next generation of workers will become better acquainted with the tools that we have available, and will start to make use of the capabilities of generative AI for writing and visual media." Orlando Baeza, chief marketing officer and Chief Revenue Officer at Flock Freight. "I believe there will there will be lots of work development in this industry however, there is an ongoing development of capabilities of employees currently employed so that the future generation to be able to follow suit and improve the capabilities."

AI can speed up production

Making videos currently requires approximately two to three weeks to produce from beginning to end. The good news is that AI can speed up the process and allowing the makers to be more creative and gives production staff more time to complete the work, which requires a focus on craftsmanship.

"I think it is one of the greatest problems in the industry of film is the price to make a film. It is an extremely high-end method of making a film and also one of the most unique aspects of this process is that it can make filmmaking accessible to all," continues Baeza. "So we are now in a time when AI (also known as machine-learning) is a tool that can assist those who have limited funds, in achieving an audience of the masses, isn't it something that's undesirable?"

AI helps make the process of creating video easier by automating tasks like editing transcription, personalization and planning. As an example, adding or removing parts from videos with background was a difficult, lengthy procedure, but now it is possible because of Generative fill tool.

"I believe that businesses will likely to be seeing AI in the future as efficiency and productivity rises," says Baeza. "I believe that AI is a fantastic partner and will aid in the growth of businesses."

That's the issue. AI can't aid you in

AI will not help increase your popularity.

Machine learning relies on processing the information that has been currently being utilized. Then, it examines patterns in the data it has already absorbed. It is for instance possible to utilize algorithms. AI software can generate stunning photos of blue-colored cups using the thousands of images it's taken from blue colored cups.

It's not about creating the same thing that's been done before. It's about the process of considering concepts in the new method and using a unique approach to an old concept and connecting it to something that no one previously has achieved. In the words of Steve Jobs famously said:

"Some people say that it is our responsibility to give customers what they want but this is not the way I see it. It's our responsibility to know the items they'll likely need before we give the items they'd like. I'm sure the quote from Henry Ford once said, "If I'd asked my clients what they wanted and they'd be telling me they'd prefer a more speedy horse. They don't have any notion of what they're looking for until you've presented the item to them. It is our job to communicate things that would not even appear in newspaper articles." Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple

Creativity is a blend of science and art. AI is a leader in the scientific aspect of the equation.

There are a number of simple and easy-to-copy good practices we employ across the business and which AI may be able to replicate in the future. for instance, the principle of thirds or making use of a strong red font to promote the sale. Yet, as of now, AI isn't able to remain forward-looking. It can't identify virality, or develop new and exciting solutions that consumers would want.

Creatives have good news. Create your own concepts, and then utilize AI to help bring the concepts to life.

AI can't duplicate the process of creative thinking.

One of the greatest benefits that comes with the making process is that whatever the plan you have in mind, your concept develops a personality that is unique when created. Everyone who comes into contact with the concept contributes thoughts and suggestions for the idea. When it is finished, the piece will be attractive with an aesthetic that you would not have imagined.

The editor of my film I collaborated on said "You could have made a film of your storyboard but it doesn't make any money right now And I'm also planning to use the footage I shot for my film." Although if everything was completed according to the plan, editors could point out certain aspects or alter the way they do things that differ from the initial strategy.

At the moment I'm unable to imagine a method to enable AI to reproduce the creativity process using this method.

AI doesn't possess a distinct view that it could bring into the workflow, like an individual filmmaker or videographer may. It's the same regardless which AI can be used to assist in the production process, for example, making it easier to speed up creation or edit - humans are vital to the process of creation.

Be alert to the future, and keep your eyes open

The end of the day, AI is going to increase the capacity of our brains to share ideas, and also the ability to trigger a whole fresh generation of creatives to make new things that we've never thought of before. If I could describe the concept of time using terms that describe the moment, then the term could describe an exuberant feeling because it's the first moment we've seen this for a long period of time. We're witnessing the previously unexplored.

In reality it's just me, with one opinion and many different views. It's essential to keep looking for solutions and with an open mind, be open to new concepts, hold mind-set and engaged in debates.

In the present time, I'm eager to find out what you're currently facing. How do you make use of AI currently? What are your thoughts on the direction it's going to take our industry?
