My background
My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I grew up in Russia.
I studied in Moscow, but I lived out in the country.
There was no hot water and the home was heated by a furnace as well as the neighbor's raised goats and cows. Wonderful times! Apart from nature and cycling I was a huge fan of animation. All my peers grew up and stopped liking cartoons, but I did exactly the opposite! It was then that I realized that it would become my preferred thing to do. This is how I ended up in the film academy in Moscow, Russia.
My personal style
I would like my artwork to always bring out some deeply emotional sensations. Like coming to warm up by the fireplace after an afternoon of ski through the forest.
My process
I am awestruck by the drawing process. It has something in common with meditation. While I'm at work, it may get dark, and I'll become hungry, but that's not really what is important while in the process.
Presently, I work in both the industry of animation and illustration... and there are board games too. I truly love the work I do.
I've always drawn lots. It started looking better when I graduated. Because I began to decide the way and what I would draw.
My suggestion to skeptical visual artists
Think about what you like and love about the thing you like about it. Try to listen less to others who you don't appreciate what they're doing. All will be well! There will be those who appreciate what you've done.
My technique
I draw everything I can on my iPad in Procreate. Sometimes I finish something using Photoshop.
The iPad has really transformed my lifestyle. Now I work in bed, in cafes, and in libraries. It is my choice of where to work. I also wander around and don't just sit at my desk. The iPad is a treasure that blends traditional drawing and computer-generated drawing.
The iPad has great brushes. For example, I bought watercolor brushes from "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". Every time I use them, I am ecstatic. I use them. They're as close to real watercolors as they can get.
Some words on what I do for work
It is my goal to create a rough outline of the objects. Because I find hard outlines rough and cold.
Sometimes I make my shadows cold blueish using the multiplier setting. Sometimes I employ overlay. But I don't understand that how it works.
Procreate offers some excellent blur options, check these out! There are several types of them which are very effective. The majority of the time, I draw using traditional materials on canvas or paper.
I'm still searching, still researching my subject matter as well as trying to come closer to my image that I like by making my own projects.
About the Teriberka series
I did after traveling there (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. It was a town that built ships to catch a lot of fish. It's now a bit of a ghost town.
Please Google it! It's stunning.
I'm always drawn to the North.
I love my animals, people and the million of shades of the moss. Small berries are packed with vitamins, more than tropical fruits. It's very impressive.
Northern cliffs look like the skin of elephants! This is the feeling which I have tried to portray through the photos.
About the Tiny Things series
The idea for this project came to my thoughts after I had become exhausted of work, the pandemic, and the city.
I picked up a macro lens and went deep into the woods. It was amazing how beautiful lay beneath my feet! Every inch of nature was beautiful. It gave me lots of energy to create. It was how this project was born.
No matter what happens, there is a miracle just beneath your feet!
How can I plan my work time
It is a challenge to manage time and rest as well as answer 'no' to offers that are not particularly suitable. Also, to commit to many tasks and to try and not get tired of doing what you love. The whole thing I'm studying.
The creative blockages
The tough element is the actual process Sometimes it fails to take place. The result isn't what I want. This means you'll have to suffer for 8 hours and then get annoyed. Then, a few days later, you can redo it in an hour and the result looks perfect. What's that? Magic.
This is my little piece of advice for how to conquer creative blocks
If you are faced with a particular kind of task - do not take a moment to draw (if possible). Allow your mind to think in the background while you're engaged in other activities. This is how I believe you can find the best solution.
What do I think of my work
If I was to evaluate my own work , I wouldn't give myself an "excellent". It's very exhausting and I am a slave to myself. On the other hand it pushes me ahead.
Drawing is like an adventure!
You have tickets to another country. You already know something about it on Google and something else will be surprising your right there. At first, it looks like a cool adventure to me.
You can find other works by Ekaterina on her website and look out for an extension of this series on Instagram , Artstation or Behance.
